The Importance of Deep Conditioning In Salon and At Home

Let's talk deep conditioning treatments. Summer has finally come to an end which means more than likely, your hair is looking for a little bit of TLC. Corrective Colors

Whether it is an at home project gone wrong or not exactly what you were looking for at the salon, we see a variety of corrective colors. Although it may seem like a simple concept originally walking into your consultation, corrective colors require a lot of communication and a lot more chemistry in order to achieve your desired look. When you schedule a corrective color at our salon we always want to know a few things:

What color is currently on your head? This means any color you have had, just because your hair is black now does not mean that the bright red you had prior isn't underneath. This is very important because your stylist needs to have a clear vision of what she is dealing with.
Have you decolorized your hair recently? Our biggest concern is to always ensure the health of your hair, if you recently lightened your hair and fail to mention, your hair could endure significant damage.
If you colored your hair at home, what did you use? Please understand we are only here to help never to judge, and if we don't know what is currently on your hair, the appointment may not go according to plan. For example, if you use a color line that contains metallic dyes and your stylist is unaware, the lightener will have an insane chemical reaction with the dye and may cause serious breakage.

After your stylist has completed your consultation and you have created a solid game plan, your appointment will begin. We always ask to have realistic expectations when coming in for a corrective color, box color can often be unpredictable and your end goal may not be achieved in the first visit. Your stylist will always do their best to achieve the color of your dreams in a timely fashion; however, if it looks like this may be a multiple appointment color, they will be sure to inform you immediately.

Behind the Scenes: EXP Model Shoot

In March, the EXP team decided to put together a full blown hair model shoot to help rebrand and redecorate the salon. We had Ginny, Reid and Valentina working with 5 different models' hair from our salon. The ladies came in late on a Saturday after business hours to have their hair cut and colored, they returned to the salon first thing in the morning to begin hair and makeup. Our makeup artist Shea worked on created a natural look for each of our models in order to draw all attention to the hair. We decided to stay true to our Geneseo building on Millennium Drive and chose to shoot above the salon, the location is priceless and historic to the area (our building was the poor house for women and children). Each and every model was an absolute delight to work with and they all enjoyed their time spent modeling for us! If you have been in our salon as of late, you cannot miss the 20x30 Metal Prints created by our photographer Jamie Pankow. Q: What is your favorite styling product at the salon?

Meet Reid, she has been a stylist at EXP for the past 6 years becoming a well known name in the area for your cosmetic needs. Reid offers color services, skincare, as well as lash services.

Q: What is your favorite styling product and why?
A: For myself, favorite styling product would have to be curl define. It has such a soft hold, gives me the lift and structure I need for my curls all the while keeping the frizz at bay. On my guests, foundation mouse. The majority of my clientele have a full blow out done with their services, the hold and the heat protection can’t be matched and once you hit it with the blow dryer the product softens beautifully. If you’re looking to air dry, cocktail a little healing oil with it. It’s perfect for scrunching in to enhance your natural texture.

Q: What is your favorite spa service to have done on yourself?
A: Spa service, FACIAL. I am big into meditating and there is next to no higher level of relaxation for me. Soft music, essential oils, massage, and I walk out with my skin glowing? Yes please.

Q: What made you want to become a cosmetologist?
A: I grew up watching my Mother dominate this industry, work so hard to build this business, and at the end of the day unquestionably love what she did for a living. Having two hard working parents, seeing that the majority of their day was spent at their job. I learned that whatever I chose as my career path would take up 50+% of my day it was imperative to me that I enjoyed it. From being the girl that braided all my friend's hair growing up I was confident that this was the field for me. From being an unlicensed therapist, making people feel confident and beautiful. I love my career.

Q: What is your go-to eye shadow pallet for going out?
A: Undressed, because the black is opaque and it creates a statement smoky eye.

Q: What is your most valuable piece of advice you have for your guests?
A: Most valuable piece of advice for my guests? Do not allow someone else to sway your decision on what you want to do to your appearance. You want purple hair but your hubby likes you natural? Come on it let’s plum you up.
